Statement by the Alumnae Alliance of Sweet Briar College
Commending President Philip Stone

The Alumnae Alliance of Sweet Briar College wishes to express its profound gratitude to President Phillip Stone. He suspended his retirement plans with little notice to lay the foundation for Sweet Briar’s recovery from the closure attempt and his leadership has been extraordinary, courageous, and sure-footed. Within a month of his arrival, we had students, faculty leader...s, and athletic teams back in place, and not long after that came the largest pool of student applications in Sweet Briar’s recorded history. We are further grateful to President Stone for his willingness to continue in his leadership post for another year to allow for a thoughtful executive search and seamless transition to his successor.
We thank you, Sir, from the bottom of our hearts.
